Carpal Tunnel: Series Part 1: What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Introduction

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an excruciating affliction of the wrist. Causing numbness, weakness in your wrist, pain and sometimes paralysis. If you ever had Carpal Tunnel, you know that it gradually starts with numbness or tingling in the hands and progresses rapidly to a point where you have no grip strength or you experience radiating, painful muscle cramps.

Your median nerve, which runs the length of your arm, passes through your wrist via the carpal tunnel, and enters your hand. Compression of this nerve is how Carpal Tunnel starts.

It can be due to a few factors such as, repetitive wrist motions like typing at a computer, repetitive texting on your phone, pregnancy, diabetes or even rheumatoid arthritis.

Relief from this pain can be as simple and as easy as daily stretching. I am going to show you a few gentle stretches that you can do 3-4 times a day to help reduce the compression on the median nerve and bring about a reprieve from the irritation of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
