Low Back Health Series Part 3: What Causes Low Back Pain?

1. Lumbar compression of the spine

Is a very common and under diagnosed issue that causes lower back pain. It is often caused from muscular imbalances in the hips, back and abdomen. The most common way to deal with this issue is a proper stretch & tension routine. If you are exercising regularly, it is worthwhile to look into your program for any potential red flags. We will cover this in more detail in the coming videos.

2. Arthritis in the lower back

Is a common issue with age. The most common form diagnosed is Osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage in the lower back, specifically the facet joints, breaks down and exposes nerves within the bone. With the cartilage gone this causes the bones to grind together causing hairline cracks and inflammation in the low back. The best known treatment for this issue is proper strength training in the area while reducing weight. We will cover what this looks like shortly.

3. Muscle tightness

Is common throughout every age group as lifestyle habits play the largest role in influencing whether or not you suffer from low back tightness. The feeling, although it can be unpleasant, can be dealt with by a stretch routine. It is important to address this issue proactively, catch the discomfort early, as opposed to reacting to the tightness, as this will only turn the pain into a bigger issue.
